A Recent Client Experience
If we are lucky, at least once in our lifetime, we will have the opportunity to work with a medical professional who has the knowledge, skills, and desire to make a difference in the quality of our life.
Thankfully, I found Amanda. While I have had several doctors who I am grateful to, Amanda exceeded every expectation I had in an effort to improve my medical condition.
I have had my condition for more than 20 years and I have worked hard to accommodate and improve it. I’ve read books, researched medical journals, talked with registered dietitians and other professionals. Quite often I was told that I was doing everything I could to improve my quality of life. While it was nice that my efforts were acknowledged, I needed help. The first time I met Amanda, I knew she was different. She did not judge me or treat me as a freak. Never did Amanda minimize my condition or make me feel that it was in my head. Often when a medical condition falls outside the norm, patients are treated as an annoyance. Fortunately, Amanda treated me with dignity and respect and stayed focus on helping me to improve my quality of life.
Amanda never doubted the symptoms surrounding my condition and how they impacted my daily life. She worked to help me minimize the occurrences and the level of pain. When we first started meeting, there were very few foods that I could eat. Amanda taught me how to turn to alternatives such as bone broth, nettle leaf, cashew sauce as a base to use in place of soup in recipes, and so much more! For the first time in years, I was eating new dishes which tasted very good. But I think the biggest moment came when Amanda suggested that we should work to improve my enjoyment of eating food. She made a point of explaining the social aspect and importance of enjoying food with friends and family. Really! All I wanted to accomplish was a little bit of variety with a lot less pain. I never dared to let myself think that I might enjoy eating again but Amanda changed my thoughts on the “enjoyment” of eating food.
There are so few people who we encounter in our lives that we can trust and believe in with our heart and soul. Amanda is one of the few. Because of the trust she establishes with her clients, there are endless possibilities to be discovered. I would like to thank Amanda for helping me move past the use of food only as a means to survive.
